PROCLAMATION NO. 1764-A
TRANSFERRING THE NATIONAL DAY OF CELEBRATION TO HONOR BOXING LEGEND MANNY PACQUIAO FROM MAY 8, 2009 (FRIDAY) TO MAY 11, 2009 (MONDAY)
WHEREAS, on May 4, 2009, the Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, issued Proclamation No. 1764 declaring May 8, 2009, Friday, as a National Day of Celebration to honor boxing legend Manny Pacquiao; ASHaDT
WHEREAS, the Proclamation is an expression of the nation's gratitude to Pacquiao for continually bringing worldwide acclaim for the country, the latest of which is his victory over Ricky Hatton;
WHEREAS, PAGASA forecast that typhoon Emong will hit NCR, Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR starting Thursday, May 7, 2009, which may affect all the preparations and the celebration itself for Pacquiao's victory;
WHEREAS, in a parallel development, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an advice that all those arriving from countries with incidence of A(H1N1) virus, such as the United States, need to undergo strict social distancing measures either at the airport of departure or at the airport of arrival for a period of five (5) days as a proper preventive and control measure for the protection of public health and safety;
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that all the preparations for the celebration of Pacquiao's victory will go smoothly as planned, and in order to afford Pacquiao the opportunity to conform with the WHO health advice, it is necessary to transfer the date of celebration from May 8, 2009 (Friday) to May 11, 2009 (Monday).
NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, President GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby transfer the National Day of Celebration to honor boxing legend Manny Pacquiao from May 8, 2008 (Friday) to May 11, 2009 (Monday).
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
