Re: Request for Extension of Existing Notarial Commissions
On July 5, 2022, the Philippine Supreme Court issued a resolution granting a six-month extension for notarial commissions that were set to expire on June 30, 2022, in response to the rising COVID-19 cases. This decision follows requests from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and its Cebu City Chapter, seeking to prolong the validity of notarial commissions originally extended due to the pandemic. The extension allows notaries public, whose commissions were initially granted in 2019 and 2020, to continue their duties until December 31, 2022, using their existing seals. This measure aims to ensure the continued availability of notarial services during ongoing health concerns.

RE: REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF EXISTING NOTARIAL COMMISSIONS
NOTICE
Sirs/Mesdames :
Please take notice that the Court en banc issued a Resolution dated JULY 5, 2022, which reads as follows:
"B.M. No. 3795 — RE: REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF EXISTING NOTARIAL COMMISSIONS
RESOLUTION
The Court resolves to NOTE the:
1. Letter dated June 28, 2022 of Atty. Burt M. Estrada, on behalf of the Board of Governors of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), attaching Resolution dated June 28, 2022 of the IBP Board of Governors;
2. Electronic Mail dated June 29, 2022 from Atty. Michelle G. Mendez-Palmares, President, IBP Cebu City Chapter, attaching Resolution No. 1, Series of 2022, of the IBP Cebu City Chapter; and
3. Aforesaid Resolution dated June 28, 2022 of the 25th Board of Governors, IBP, and Resolution No. 1, Series of 2022, of the IBP Cebu City Chapter, both requesting the Court to extend the validity of Notarial Commissions that have been earlier extended up to June 30, 2022, for a period of six (6) months, or specifically from July 1, 2022 up to December 31, 2022.
Due to the recent rise in the number of active COVID-19 cases, the Court resolves to GRANT the IBP's request, and extend the validity of all notarial commissions set to expire on June 30, 2022.
Accordingly, all notarial commissions granted in 2019 and 2020 whose validity had been previously extended until June 30, 2022 pursuant to the Court's Resolutions dated December 1, 2020, June 22, 2021, and September 28, 2021 are deemed further extended. These commissions shall thus remain valid for an additional period of six (6) months beginning July 1, 2022 until December 31, 2022. The notaries public whose terms are deemed extended pursuant to this Resolution shall continue performing notarial acts using their existing seals.
This extension is granted by the Court on account of the current COVID-19 pandemic." (adv9)
