Partial Payment of Accrued Back Pensions and Death Gratuities of AFP Ex-Servicemen or Their Surviving Kins
Presidential Decree No. 357, issued on December 30, 1973, authorizes the partial payment of accrued back pensions and death gratuities for ex-servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and their surviving kin, as mandated by Republic Act No. 5859. This law increased the death and disability benefits for officers and enlisted personnel who died or were disabled due to service-related causes. Due to the National Government's financial constraints since 1969, full implementation of these benefits had been delayed, with nearly P2.95 million owed. The decree allocates P2 million from the interest earned on a $31 million Veterans Claims Settlement Fund, held at the Philippine Veterans Bank, to address these outstanding payments.
