PROCLAMATION NO. 1407

DECLARING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2007 AS THE WBC BOXING MONTH AND ENJOINING ALL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND INSTRUMENTALITIES INCLUDING ALL LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS AND GOVERNMENT OWNED AND CONTROLLED CORPORATIONS TO EXTEND ASSISTANCE TO THE GAMES AND AMUSEMENTS BOARD (GAB) IN THE HOLDING OF THE 45TH WORLD BOXING COUNCIL (WBC) ANNUAL BOXING CONVENTION AND ITS SPORTS AND GAMING EVENTS TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 11-17, 2007 AT MANILA HOTEL, ONE RIZAL PARK, MANILA

WHEREAS, the World Boxing Council (WBC) is considered as one of the biggest, most prestigious and most influential boxing organization in the world which consists of 168 members-nations and 14 affiliated federations; SIaHTD

WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is one of the Members of the 60-Member Board of Governors and concurrently the Vice-President of the Oriental-Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF), a federation under the auspices of the WBC;

WHEREAS, in the year 2006, during the event dubbed as "Night of the Champions" initiated by the WBC, the Philippines was unanimously voted by its Chairman and Members of the Board of Governors and Heads of the 14 boxing organizations/federations, as the next host country of its forthcoming 45th WBC Annual Boxing Convention;

WHEREAS, it is an honor and privilege for the Philippines to be chosen as the host country and as the venue of the WBC Convention after a period of 37 years;

WHEREAS, this will be an opportunity for the Philippines to be recognized as world-class venue of international forums and meetings and more importantly to show its support in the boxing world where Filipino boxers are known to be dominant and for it to promote those Filipino boxers who have potential to become world boxing champions;

WHEREAS, this is also an opportunity for the Philippines to boost and promote its tourism industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of November 2007 as the WBC Boxing Month and hereby enjoins all government agencies and instrumentalities, local government units and government owned and controlled corporations to extend assistance to the Games and Amusements Board in the holding of the 45th WBC Annual Boxing Convention and its sports and gaming events to be held on November 11-17, 2007 at Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Manila.

This Proclamation shall take effect immediately. TDCaSE
