PROCLAMATION NO. 1953
DECLARING NOVEMBER 26, 2009 AS A NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING FOR THE HAPLESS VICTIMS IN THE MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE
WHEREAS, on November 24, 2009, the most gruesome and heinous massacre in Maguindanao of more than forty unarmed civilians, including members of the media, shook the nation in outrage; aTEACS
WHEREAS, the Maguindanao massacre is a supreme act of inhumanity that is a blight to our nation and made us all poorer;
WHEREAS, the nation joins the families and friends of the innocent victims in mourning;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim November 26, 2009, as a National Day of Mourning. The entire nation is requested to offer prayers for the eternal repose of the souls of the victims and for our people to reclaim our sense of humanity.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
DONE in the City of Manila, this 25th day of November, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Nine.
