Withdrawing the Tax-Free Importation Privilege of the National Grains Authority
Presidential Decree No. 901, issued on March 4, 1976, rescinds the National Grains Authority's (NGA) tax-free importation privilege for wheat grains, which was previously established under Presidential Decree No. 726. This decision was made due to an adequate supply of palay and its substitutes, with the aim of generating additional government revenue by imposing customs duties and taxes on imported wheat. The NGA is still authorized to import wheat grains and negotiate on behalf of the Philippines, but these imports will now be subject to the aforementioned charges. The decree also nullifies any conflicting laws or regulations.
