Resolution Restoring the Acronym OCA for the Office of the Court Administrator
On June 15, 1999, the Supreme Court of the Philippines issued a resolution restoring the acronym "OCA" for the Office of the Court Administrator, following confusion caused by the use of a new acronym, "OCAD." The Office was established in 1975 to assist the Supreme Court in overseeing lower courts and has historically used "OCA" in its communications and documents. To maintain consistency and clear communication, the Court mandated that all related offices and personnel revert to using "OCA." This resolution took effect immediately on the same date.

RESOLUTION RESTORING THE ACRONYM OCA FOR THE OFFICE OF THE COURT ADMINISTRATOR
The Court has been receiving of late numerous queries and requests for clarification from judges and court personnel, as well as the public in general, as to the proper acronym for the Office of the Court Administrator, claiming that documents, papers and other written communication they have been receiving from said Office show a new acronym, i.e., OCAD. SaICcT
It may be recalled that the Office of the Court Administrator was created on 18 November 1975 under PD No. 828 to assist the Supreme Court in the exercise of its power of administrative supervision over all lower courts and their personnel as provided in Sec. 6, Art. X, of the 1973 Constitution. Since its formal organization soon after its creation the Office of the Court Administrator has always used the acronym OCA for the Office of the Court Administrator, as reflected in the decisions, resolutions, administrative orders and circulars and other issuances relative to or involving that Office.
Thus, in order to avoid any further confusion on the matter and continue with or preserve an established practice, the Court has Resolved, as it hereby Resolves, to restore the acronym OCA as the correct acronym for the Office of the Court Administrator, and require all concerned, especially the Office of the Court Administrator and the offices, officials and personnel thereof, to implement this resolution.
This Resolution shall take effect on 15 June 1999.
(SGD.) LUZVIMINDA D. PUNOClerk of Court
