Recognition of the Sport Badminton under the Supervision of the Professional Basketball and Other Pro-Games Division

GAB RESOLUTION NO. 05-94

APPROVING THE RECOGNITION OF THE SPORT BADMINTON UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL AND OTHER PRO-GAMES DIVISION, THE ISSUANCE OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING PROFESSIONAL BADMINTON IN THE PHILIPPINES AND THE ACCREDITATION OF THE STRATS PLUS EVENTS MANAGEMENT

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State to promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of healthy and alert citizenry;

WHEREAS, the government in an effort to carry out its constitutional mandate, empowered the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to supervise and regulate the conduct and operation of the sports pursuant to PD 871;

WHEREAS, badminton is form of sport, which is already universally recognized, played not only in our neighboring countries in Asia but likewise in many other countries worldwide;

WHEREAS, in view of the worldwide recognition of the sport badminton as a form of professional sport, there is a need for the Philippines to recognize and patronize the sport badminton in order to cope up with the universal trends;

WHEREAS, the holding, and proliferation of competition and exhibitions featuring the sort badminton, if recognized and accredited by the Games and Amusements Board, will help generate additional revenue/income for the government; cTDECH

WHEREAS, in order to enable the Filipino people, especially the youth and sports enthusiasts, to fully appreciate and recognized the sport badminton, there is a need to formulate the rules and regulations governing the sport badminton in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, that the Professional Basketball and Other Pro-Games Division of this Board is responsible in the implementation and supervision of the sport, badminton;

WHEREAS, for purposes of a proper and orderly monitoring of the activities and programs of private groups and associations engaged in the promotion and development of the sport badminton, accreditation by GAB is necessary before these private groups and associations can be authorized to engage in such endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, in view of the foregoing, the Board, RESOLVED, as it is hereby RESOLVED that the sport BADMINTON be RECOGNIZED, as it is hereby RECOGNIZED, as a form of professional sport, subject to the rules and regulations as may be promulgated by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), to be under the supervision of the Professional Basketball and Other Pro-Games Division, in the exercise of its supervisory and regulatory powers over professional sports pursuant to the provisions of PD 871, and other related laws.

RESOLVED further that after evaluation and consideration of the documents submitted as well as the testimonies by the Officers the STRATS PLUS EVENTS MANAGEMENT, the Board APPROVED, as it is hereby APPROVED the accreditation of the STRATS PLUS EVENTS MANAGEMENT, to promote the sport Badminton.

RESOLVED likewise that copy of this Resolution be given all parties concerned.
