Participation in the Opening Celebration of the National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty

MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 145
ENJOINING ALL CABINET MEMBERS, PRESIDENTIAL ADVISERS AND HEADS OF EXECUTIVE OFFICES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OPENING CELEBRATION OF THE NATIONAL WEEK FOR OVERCOMING EXTREME POVERTY ON OCTOBER 17, 2007
Pursuant to Proclamation No. 717 dated October 18, 2004, the period from October 17 to 23 of every year has been declared as National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty. The proclamation aims to provide ample opportunity for national government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, private sector, and the poor communities to participate in the activities geared toward poverty reduction. For this year's celebration, the theme is "Kumilos, Manindigan, Labanan ang Kahirapan." The week will culminate in the opening celebration on October 17, 2007, which shall be highlighted by the Stand Up, Speak Out campaign organized by the United Nations System in the Philippines in a bid to set a Guinness World Record of gathering Three Million Filipinos.
In this regard, all cabinet members, presidential advisers and heads of executive offices are hereby enjoined to participate in relevant and meaningful activities scheduled on October 17, 2007 at the Open Air Auditorium, Rizal Park, Manila.
The National Anti-Poverty Commission shall be the lead agency to coordinate and monitor the observance of the "National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty."
This Memorandum Circular shall take effect immediately.
