EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 949
INCREASING MEDICARE ALLOWANCES
WHEREAS, it is the avowed policy of the government to provide adequate medical care services to the people; cd i
WHEREAS, the prices of commodities and services, including medicare have gone up in recent times;
WHEREAS, under present economic conditions, medical care members and their employers could not afford to pay additional contributions;
WHEREAS, actuarial studies show that allowances under the medicare program may be increased for qualified members but not for their dependents;
WHEREAS, it becomes necessary now to implement increase in allowances for the qualified members without prejudice late increase for their dependents;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order:
SECTION 1. The qualified members of the medicare program shall, without any additional contribution, be entitled to the following allowances: cd

SECTION 2. The legal dependents of Medicare members shall continue to be entitled to the allowance presently prescribed in Section 12 of Presidential Decree No. 1519. cd
SECTION 3. Presidential Decree No. 1519 and all laws, executive orders or parts thereof which are inconsistent with the provisions of this order are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.
This Executive Order shall take effect immediately.
DONE in the City of Manila, this 1st day of May, in the year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Four.
