PROCLAMATION NO. 2271

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM FEBRUARY 21 TO 27, 1983 AS NATIONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS WEEK THROUGH RUNNING

WHEREAS, the development of a physically fit, healthy and alert citizenry is one of the major thrusts in our New Republic;

WHEREAS, the Second Manila International Marathon on February 27 will see top world class marathoners and representatives from the country's thirteen regions proves that Running as a sports activity is an effective medium in attaining physical fitness;

WHEREAS, in line with this laudable objective and to further increase national awareness of Running as a wholesome and delightful sports activity, inexpensive and within the reach of everyone;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution do hereby declare the period from February 21 to 27, 1983 as National Physical Fitness Week through Running.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
