Proclamation No. 2226, issued on July 27, 1982, declares December 11 of each year as Pampanga Day in the Philippines. This date commemorates the founding of Pampanga as the first province of Luzon on December 11, 1571, following its conquest by the Spaniards. The proclamation aims to honor the province's rich cultural heritage and recognize the contributions of its notable residents. It supersedes Proclamation No. 1702, which previously designated February 13 as Pampanga Day, shifting the focus to the actual founding date. Pampanga Day is established as a public holiday for the province.
