Proclamation No. 2353, issued on April 26, 1984, declares April 27 of that year as "Lapu-Lapu City Day" in Lapu-Lapu City, commemorating the anniversary of its conversion from a municipality to a city by Republic Act No. 3134. This day also honors the Filipino people's efforts to defend the nation against foreign threats. While it is a significant milestone for the city's residents, the proclamation specifies that it will be observed as a regular working and school day. The proclamation was signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
