Batas Pambansa Blg. 494, enacted on June 10, 1983, converts the Bontoc National Agricultural and Fishery School in Southern Leyte into the Southern Leyte Agro-Fishery Technical Institute. The new institute will expand its curriculum to include technological and professional courses in agriculture and fisheries, along with authorized short-term vocational training programs. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports is tasked with implementing necessary rules and regulations for the institute's operation. Existing funds for the former school will be allocated to the new institute, with future funding provided through General Appropriations Acts. The Act takes effect upon approval.

AN ACT CONVERTING THE BONTOC NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL AND FISHERY SCHOOL IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BONTOC, PROVINCE OF SOUTHERN LEYTE, INTO A TECHNICAL INSTITUTE TO BE KNOWN AS THE SOUTHERN LEYTE AGRO-FISHERY TECHNICAL INSTITUTE

SECTION 1. The Bontoc National Agricultural and Fishery School in the Municipality of Bontoc, Province of Southern Leyte, is hereby converted into a technical institute to be known as Southern Leyte Agro-Fishery Technical Institute.

SECTION 2. In addition to its present vocational curricular offerings in the secondary and post-secondary levels, the school shall offer technological and professional courses in agriculture and fisheries and such short-term vocational training courses as may be authorized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

SECTION 3. The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports shall take such steps and issue such rules and regulations as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.

SECTION 4. The existing appropriations for the Bontoc Agricultural and Fishery School are hereby transferred to the Southern Leyte Agro-Fishery Technical Institute to be disbursed in accordance with the provisions of this Act. Thereafter, the necessary amount required for the operation and maintenance of the institute shall be provided for in subsequent General Appropriations Acts until which time the operation of the institution as an institute shall be deferred, provided that its new name shall take effect upon approval of this Act.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
