Amendment to the Conditions on the Commercial Exploitation of Supreme Court Decisions
On August 17, 2004, the Supreme Court of the Philippines approved amendments regarding the commercial exploitation of Supreme Court decisions. The amendments allow for the deposit of only two copies of legal works with the Supreme Court Library, rather than requiring additional copies, in line with the Intellectual Property Code. Furthermore, only compilations of Supreme Court decisions spanning over 20 years will be subject to these conditions, excluding compilations on specific topics or shorter timeframes. These changes are effective immediately and are to be published in a newspaper of general circulation.

A.M. No. 04-7-06-SC
Gentlemen :
Quoted hereunder, for your information, is a resolution of the Court En Banc dated 17 August 2004.
"A.M. No. 04-7-06-SC. — Re: Conditions on the Commercial Exploitation of Supreme Court Decisions. — Acting on the Memorandum dated 17 August 2004 of the Committee on Computerization and the Committee on Library and Printing Services, recommending the amendments of the Conditions on the Commercial Exploitation of Supreme Court Decisions, the Court Resolved to APPROVE the proposed amendments, to wit:
1. Instead of a deposit of two additional copies of the legal treatise and student textbook, the deposit of two copies with the Supreme Court Library in accordance with Section 191 of the Intellectual Property Code shall be sufficient. At present, only a handful of authors deposit two copies of their work with the Supreme Court Library. Thus, requiring a deposit of two additional copies would not be advisable.
2. Only compilations of all Supreme Court decisions covering a period of more than 20 years shall be subject to the conditions. Thus, compilations on special topics like maritime law, or compilations covering short periods, shall not be covered by the conditions.
The Amendments shall take effect immediately.
In this connection, the Clerk of Court is hereby directed to PUBLISH the amendments in a newspaper of general circulation. Sandoval-Gutierrez, J .,on leave. (113). IcSADC
