Amendment to R.A. No. 1134 Re: Payment of Back Longevity Pay to AFP Officers
Republic Act No. 3449, enacted on June 18, 1961, amends Section 1 of Republic Act No. 1134 to provide longevity pay for officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Under this law, officers receive additional pay for every five years of service, with the total longevity pay capped at 50% of their monthly base pay. Furthermore, the Act mandates the payment of back longevity pay for service rendered between January 1, 1933, and June 15, 1948, to be sourced from savings in the Armed Forces' yearly appropriations. This law took effect upon its approval and was published in the Official Gazette on July 16, 1962.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 3449
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION ONE OF REPUBLIC ACT NUMBERED ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-FOUR IN ORDER TO PROVIDE FOR THE PAYMENT OF BACK LONGEVITY PAY TO OFFICERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES
SECTION 1. Section one of Republic Act Numbered One thousand one hundred thirty-four is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SEC. 1. Hereafter each officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines shall receive in addition to his monthly base pay longevity pay authorized for his grade for each five years of faithful and efficient service heretofore or hereafter rendered as an officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and of recognized guerrilla units, such additional pay to be compounded every five years: Provided, That the total amount of longevity pay shall not exceed fifty per centum of the officer's monthly base pay as prescribed by law: Provided, further, That payment of back longevity pay to officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for service rendered by them during the period from January first, nineteen hundred thirty-three to June fifteen, nineteen hundred forty-eight, be made from the savings acquired from the yearly appropriations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines."
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
