Amending Sugar Order No. 1, Series of 2017-2018 Re: Sugar Policy for Crop Year 2017-2018

SRA ORDER NO. 001-A, S. 2017-2018

 

WHEREAS, Executive Order No. 18, dated 28 May 1986, vests the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) with the power to establish and maintain a balanced relationship between sugar production and the requirements of sugar to maintain such marketing conditions as will ensure stabilized prices at levels reasonably profitable to the producers and fair to consumers;

WHEREAS, Section 5 of Sugar Order No. 1, Series of 2017-2018 provides that the SRA shall undertake periodic assessment of the Crop Year 2017-2018 sugar production and consumption trend and on the basis of such assessment it may time to time adjust the percentage distribution of the different classes of sugar provided in this Sugar Order and/or take the necessary action to address the situation;

WHEREAS, due to unfavourable weather conditions, the total raw sugar production for Crop Year 2017-2018 is now estimated to be less than the initial projection of 2.38 million metric tons;

WHEREAS, the domestic market remains as the priority market for locally produced sugar, and it is of national interest that a comfortable buffer or carry-over volume of "B" sugar during the end of season and for the start of the next crop year for stable supply and prices;

NOW, THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the authority vested in the Sugar Regulatory Administration, it is hereby ordered that:

SECTION 1. The Sugar Allocation in Section 1 of Sugar Order No. 1, Series of 2017-2018 is hereby amended as follows:

"A" or U.S. Quota Sugar	-	6%
"B" or Domestic Sugar	-	93%
"D" or World Market Sugar	-	1%

SECTION 2. This Sugar order shall take effect immediately covering sugar production of week ending 28 January 2018 and subsequent week endings of Crop Year 2017-2018. ISCDEA

SECTION 3. Provisions of Sugar Orders, Circular Letters and other rules and regulations inconsistent with or contrary to this Sugar order are hereby amended, modified or repealed and revoked accordingly.
