REFORMS FOR THE 2012 BAR EXAMINATIONS
RESOLUTION
Sirs/Mesdames:
Please take notice that the Court en banc issued a Resolution dated March 20, 2012, which reads as follows: ScCIaA
Acting on the Memorandum dated March 5, 2012 of Associate Justice Martin S. Villarama, Jr., Chairperson, 2012 Bar Examinations, the Court resolves to NOTE the said memorandum and APPROVE, upon his recommendation, the proposal that the 2012 Bar Examinations be held at the University of Sto. Tomas, España Blvd., Manila on the four Sundays of October 2012, with the different examination dates being distributed as follows: First day, Political and International Law (morning) and Labor and Social Legislation (afternoon); Second day, Civil Law (morning) and Taxation (afternoon); Third day, Mercantile Law (morning) and Criminal Law (afternoon); Fourth day, Remedial Law (morning) and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises (afternoon).
Also, as part of the continuing reforms in the conduct of the Bar Examinations, the Court further resolves:
(a) to APPROVE Justice Villarama's recommendation that the exam for each subject in the 2012 Bar Examinations be composed of 60% multiple-choice questions and 40% essay questions, to be corrected electronically insofar as the multiple-choice questions are concerned and manually by the examiner assigned for the subject insofar as the essay questions are concerned, with each component having the said weights;
(b) to APPROVE Justice Villarama's recommendation that in determining a candidate's general average, the results in the examination be given the following relative weights: Political and International Law, 15 percent; Labor and Social Legislation, 10 percent; Civil Law, 15 percent; Taxation, 10 percent; Mercantile Law, 15 percent; Criminal Law, 10 percent; Remedial Law, 20 percent; Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises, 5 percent; and
(c) to DIRECT that the Practical Exercises portion of the last exam be in the form of a Trial Memorandum Writing Test." Del Castillo, J., on leave. Sereno, J., no part. (adv96) cHaADC
