PROCLAMATION NO. 2427

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC. TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP AND FUND CAMPAIGN DURING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 1, 1985 TO MARCH 31, 1986

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., the lone socio-medical organization committed to the prevention and control of cancer, envisions the extension of its free medical service through its Cancer Divisions in the provinces, the establishment of Therapy Centers in medical centers for cancer patients, the intensification of its educational campaigns for cancer awareness, the maintenance of its Cancer Detection and Diagnostic Center, and the increasing scope of its research.

WHEREAS, statistics gathered by the Society from various local clinics and hospitals show that the prevalence of cancer is increasing every year; and

WHEREAS, in order to carry out these expanded services of the Society, it needs greater outlay of funds and this can only be achieved through the continued support and cooperation of the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby authorized the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc. to conduct a national, educational, membership and fund campaign during the period from April 1, 1985 to March 31, 1986.

I call upon all the citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race or creed, to assist in this humanitarian endeavor by giving generously of their means and reiterate that all donations or contributions given to this charitable cause shall be exempt from income, gift, amusement and all other taxes as provided by Presidential Decree No. 507.
