Republic Act No. 279, enacted on June 16, 1948, extends the provisions of Act No. 4166, which regulates and allocates sugar production in the Philippines. The Act will remain in force until the crop year 1973-1974 unless the President declares that the national emergency, which justified the Act, has ended. In such a case, the provisions of the Act may be suspended or terminated. This legislation emphasizes the government's control over the sugar industry during a declared national emergency. The Act took effect immediately upon its approval.
