Extended Period for Availment of Solutions to Overstaying Chinese Problem
On December 19, 1973, President Ferdinand E. Marcos issued Letter of Instructions No. 153, extending the deadline for Chinese nationals to apply for benefits under Presidential Decree No. 298 until February 19, 1974. This extension was granted in response to requests from qualified Chinese nationals who had not yet taken advantage of the provisions set forth in the earlier decree. The Commissioner of Immigration and Deportation supported this extension due to the significant number of applicants. The decision reflects the government's recognition of the ongoing issues faced by the Chinese community in the Philippines during that period.
