Deletion of Safety 2 — Advanced Safety Courses as Part of the Minimum Requirement for the Maritime Education Under Section 16.2, Article V, Page 3 of the CMO No. 38, S. 1998
CHED Memorandum Order No. 21-01, issued on June 21, 2001, amends the requirements for maritime education by removing the Safety 2 Advanced Safety Courses from the minimum graduation criteria. This decision follows the recommendation of the Technical Panel for Maritime Education and a resolution by the Commission en banc. While the courses on survival crafts, advanced firefighting, and medical first aid are no longer mandatory, maritime institutions can still offer their theoretical components as electives. The memorandum is effective immediately.

CHED MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 21-01

In accordance with Resolution No. R105-2001 of the Commission en banc dated June 8, 2001 and per recommendation of the Technical Panel for Maritime Education (TPME), the following amendments are hereby adopted and promulgated by the Commission, thus:
1. Under Section 16.2, Article V, Page 3 of the CMO No. 38, s. 1998 — Supplemental Policies, Standards and Guidelines to CMO 51, s. 1997 (Policies, Standards and Guidelines for Maritime Education), Safety 2 — Advanced Safety Courses which includes 16.2.1. Proficiency in survival crafts and rescue boats (A-VI/2, paragraphs 1 to 4; 16.2.2. Advanced fire fighting; and 16.2.3. Medical first aid, shall be deleted as a minimum requirement for graduation in maritime education programs.
2. However, the maritime institutions have the option to offer the theoretical part of said Safety 2 courses as an elective subjects but it should not be part of the mandatory requirement for graduation.
This CMO shall take immediately.
