Republic Act No. 10966, enacted on December 28, 2017, designates December 8 of each year as a special nonworking holiday throughout the Philippines. This day is set aside to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, who is recognized as the Principal Patroness of the country. The law took effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10966

AN ACT DECLARING DECEMBER 8 OF EVERY YEAR A SPECIAL NONWORKING HOLIDAY IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY TO COMMEMORATE THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY, THE PRINCIPAL PATRONESS OF THE PHILIPPINES

SECTION 1. December 8 of every year is hereby declared a special nonworking holiday in the entire country to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the Principal Patroness of the Philippines.

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
