PROCLAMATION NO. 2372

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM AUGUST 13 TO 20, 1984 INTELSAT WEEK IN THE PHILIPPINES

WHEREAS, the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT) is the international cooperative organization formed to provide satellite communications to the world on a non-discriminatory basis;

WHEREAS, INTELSAT is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Year (1964-1984) from 9 April 1984 to 9 April 1985;

WHEREAS, INTELSAT's first twenty years have been a remarkable success story, in terms of levels of international cooperation and technological progress;

WHEREAS, in keeping with the world-wide activities planned by the 109-Member countries of INTELSAT for the period from 13 to 20 August 1984, PHILCONSAT, as the signatory of the Philippines in the Intelsat Interim Agreements, will undertake various activities to underscore the importance of telecommunications and the significant role played therein by INTELSAT;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from August 13 to 20, 1984 as INTELSAT WEEK in the Philippines.
