Declaring a Total Log Ban in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
On December 22, 2011, the Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao issued Executive Order No. 1-11, instituting a total log ban in the region. This decision aligns with the provisions of R.A. 9054, which mandates the protection of forest reserves and prohibits logging operations. The order highlights the need to address environmental degradation and its link to natural disasters, such as Typhoon Sendong. While the ban is comprehensive, it allows exceptions for government-related activities with oversight from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-ARMM) and respects cultural practices under the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act. The order takes effect immediately upon publication in local newspapers.
