Creation of Magallanes, Agusan
Republic Act No. 5660, enacted on June 21, 1969, establishes the Municipality of Magallanes in the Province of Agusan, carved from a portion of Butuan City. The municipality's territorial boundaries are clearly defined, including specific landmarks and the barrios of Magallanes and Caloc-an, along with several sitios. The initial local government officials, including the mayor and vice-mayor, will be elected in the next general elections, while other municipal employees will be appointed as per existing laws. The Act became effective immediately upon its approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 5660
AN ACT CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF MAGALLANES, PROVINCE OF AGUSAN
SECTION 1. Any provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding, there is hereby created in the Province of Agusan, a municipality to be known as the Municipality of Magallanes, which consists of a portion of the city of Butuan.
SECTION 2. The Municipality of Magallanes will comprise the territory beginning from a point Corner 1, a Bita-ug Tree, 2.00 meters in diameter located 10.00 meters East from centerline of an existing Magallanes-Cabadbaran Road, thence due East, 4.112 kilometers to Corner 2; thence due South, 5.60 kilometers to Corner 3; thence due West, 4.00 kilometers to Corner 4; which is the junction of Agusan and Cayucaman Rivers; thence following downstream along the East Bank of the Agusan River and along the Magallanes shores to Corner 5; thence due East, 97.00 meters to Corner 1, point of beginning, comprising the barrios of Magallanes and Caloc-an and the sitios of Dahican, Buhang, Popao, Cayucaman and Taod-oy. The seat of the government will be at the present barrio site of Magallanes. cd i
SECTION 3. The first mayor, vice-mayor, and councilors shall be elected in the next general elections for local officials. All other officers and employees of the said municipality shall be appointed as provided for by law.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
