Commitment of the Newly Convicted Female Inmates to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) Mindanao
OCA Circular No. 108-07, issued on October 25, 2007, instructs judges in the Mindanao region to commit newly convicted female inmates to the newly established Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) Mindanao. This facility was created in response to President Macapagal-Arroyo's directive to address the overcrowding at the CIW Mandaluyong City and to allow female offenders from Mindanao to be closer to their families. The Department of Justice has already transferred 98 female inmates to this new facility. Judges are required to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

| SUBJECT | : | Commitment of the Newly Convicted Female Inmates to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) Mindanao |
The Department of Justice (DOJ) through its Bureau of Corrections has recently established its Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) Mindanao in compliance with President Macapagal-Arroyo's directive to set up a correctional facility for women in Mindanao which was formally inaugurated last 18 September 2007. ADcEST
Pursuant thereto, the DOJ has initially transferred the ninety eight (98) female inmates from its CIW Mandaluyong City to this correctional facility in order to properly address the congestion problem thereat, and likewise to enable the female offenders coming from the Mindanao areas to be near their respective families.
In view of all the foregoing, you are hereby DIRECTED to COMMIT the newly convicted female inmates to the following:
