AN ACT TO AMEND ACT NUMBERED FIFTEEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-TWO, KNOWN AS "THE ELECTION LAW," AS AMENDED BY ACTS NUMBERED SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND NINE AND SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY SIX, BY DISQUALIFYING HABITUAL USERS OF OPIUM FROM HOLDING PROVINCIAL OR MUNICIPAL OFFICERS

SECTION 1. The sixth paragraph of section twelve of Act Numbered Fifteen hundred and eighty-two, known as "The Election Law," as amended by Acts Numbered Seventeen hundred and nine and Seventeen hundred and twenty-six, is hereby amended to read as follows: HTcADC

"Unless fully pardoned, no person who is under judgment of conviction of a crime which is punishable by imprisonment for two years or more or which involves moral turpitude, regardless of whether or not an appeal is pending in the action, shall hold any public office, and no person disqualified from holding public office by the sentence of a court, whether or not an appeal is pending in the action, or so disqualified under the provisions of Act Numbered Eleven hundred and twenty-six, as amended, shall be eligible to hold public office during the term of disqualification. No person who habitually smokes, chews, swallows, injects, or otherwise consumes or uses opium in any of its forms, shall be eligible to hold any provincial or municipal office."

SECTION 2. The public good requiring the speedy enactment of this bill, the passage of the same is hereby expedited in accordance with section two of "An Act prescribing the order of procedure by the Commission in the enactment of laws," passed September twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
