An Act Converting the Carigara School of Fisheries in the Municipality of Carigara, Province of Leyte, into a College, to be Known as the Carigara College of Fisheries and Appropriating Funds Therefor
Republic Act No. 8554, approved on February 25, 1998, converts the Carigara School of Fisheries in Leyte into the Carigara College of Fisheries. This new institution will offer higher vocational and technical courses in fisheries and marine engineering, in addition to its existing secondary education programs. The College will be supervised by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and will inherit all personnel, records, and assets from the former school. Funding for its establishment will come from the current year's budget of the Carigara School of Fisheries, with future needs included in the annual General Appropriations Act. The Act takes effect immediately upon approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8554
AN ACT CONVERTING THE CARIGARA SCHOOL OF FISHERIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CARIGARA, PROVINCE OF LEYTE, INTO A COLLEGE, TO BE KNOWN AS THE CARIGARA COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR
SECTION 1. The Carigara School of Fisheries in the Municipality of Carigara, Province of Leyte, is hereby converted into a college, to be known as the Carigara College of Fisheries, hereinafter referred to as the College.
SECTION 2. The College, in addition to the present secondary education offered by the existing high school, shall provide higher vocational and technical courses and training in the field of fisheries leading to the degrees of fisheries and marine engineering.
SECTION 3. The College shall be under the administration and supervision of the Commission on Higher Education as a CHED-supervised Higher Education Institution (CHEI).
SECTION 4. All personnel, records and assets, as well as liabilities of the Carigara School of Fisheries, are hereby transferred to and absorbed by the Carigara College of Fisheries.
SECTION 5. The amount necessary for the implementation of this Act shall be charged against the current year's appropriations of the Carigara School of Fisheries. Thereafter, such sums as may be necessary for its operation and maintenance shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
SECTION 6. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
