Commonwealth Act No. 457, enacted on June 8, 1939, amends prior legislation concerning the construction and improvement of public buildings in the Philippines. It authorizes the construction of National Government buildings in Manila and Baguio, including the alteration of official residences and the acquisition of private lands for government use. Specifically, it allows for the completion of the Bureau of Customs office building with a budget cap of one million two hundred thousand pesos. The Act is effective immediately upon approval.

COMMONWEALTH ACT NO. 457

AN ACT TO AMEND FURTHER SECTION ONE OF ACT NUMBERED THIRTY-FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY-SEVEN, AS AMENDED

SECTION 1. Section one of Act Numbered Thirty-Five hundred and ninety-seven, as amended, is further amended so as to read as follows: EcDATH

"Sec. 1. The construction of National Government and other public buildings on the site set aside as government center in the Burnham Plan for the improvement of the City of Manila, or a site to be selected by the President of the Philippines within a radius of thirty kilometers from the Rizal Monument in the said city, including the acquisition of privately-owned lands and buildings; the alteration and improvement of the official residences of the President of the Philippines in the Cities of Manila and Baguio; the acquisition, by purchase or otherwise, of building sites and privately-owned buildings needed for governmental purposes in the Cities of Manila and Baguio; the construction of new public buildings in the cities of Manila and Baguio; and the alteration, extension and improvement of existing National Government buildings in the cities of Manila and Baguio, including the completion of the office building for the Bureau of Customs on the Port Area, Manila, are authorized: Provided, That the total sum to be allotted under this Act for the completion of the office building for the Bureau of Customs shall not exceed one million two hundred thousand pesos."

SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
