Amendment to R.A. No. 340 Re: Service Rendered in American or Philippine Red Cross for Retirement Purposes
Republic Act No. 1380, enacted on June 18, 1955, amends the provisions of Republic Act No. 340 regarding retirement benefits for individuals who have served as civilian officials or employees in the Government, American Red Cross, or Philippine Red Cross. It stipulates that such service can be credited for retirement purposes, provided the individual has at least ten years of active military service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. However, if the civilian service exceeds the duration of military service, only the equivalent duration of military service will be credited. The Act took effect immediately upon approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1380
AN ACT TO FURTHER AMEND SUBPARAGRAPH (e) OF SECTION NINE OF REPUBLIC ACT NUMBERED THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY, AS AMENDED, SO AS TO INCLUDE SERVICE RENDERED IN THE AMERICAN RED CROSS OR PHILIPPINE RED CROSS FOR PURPOSES OF RETIREMENT
Subparagraph (e) of section nine of Republic Act Numbered Three hundred and forty, as amended by Republic Act Numbered Eight hundred and sixty-one, is further amended to read as follows: casia
"(e) Service rendered by him as civilian official or employee in the Government or in the American Red Cross, prior to the creation of Philippine Red Cross, or in the Philippine Red Cross: Provided, That he has rendered at least ten years of active service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines: Provided, further, That if the period of his service as such civilian official or employee is longer than the period of his military service, his services as civilian official or employee shall be credited only as equal to his military service."
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
