Use of Cold Brand as the only Branding Technique and Prohibiting Fire Branding of Horses
On November 16, 2006, the Philippine Racing Commission announced that cold or freeze branding will be the sole method for branding horses in the Philippines, in adherence to Republic Act 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. This decision was made to ensure the welfare of horses and aligns with the Implementing Rules and Regulations that emphasize reducing pain during the branding process. The new branding technique will apply to all horses registered for breeding or racing, starting with foals produced in 2006. Compliance with this regulation is mandatory for all relevant parties.
