Suspension of Operation of LOI No. 1409 (s. 1984) Re: Reopening of the Barter Trade in Zamboanga del Sur
Letter of Instructions No. 1476, issued on August 7, 1985, by President Ferdinand E. Marcos, suspends the previous authorization for barter trade in Zamboanga del Sur due to concerns about unregulated goods movement affecting domestic industries and tax revenues. Barter trading is now restricted to the Sulu archipelago and must comply with Presidential Decree No. 93. Goods taken out of the Sulu archipelago will incur necessary taxes and duties, with individuals possessing untaxed goods outside this area held liable. The Ministries of Finance and Trade and Industry are tasked with creating regulations to monitor barter trading effectively. This directive takes immediate effect.
