Retention of the Tax Exemption Privileges for Fertilizer
Letter of Instructions No. 1438, issued on October 30, 1984, by President Ferdinand E. Marcos, mandates the retention of tax exemption privileges for fertilizers to support the agricultural sector. The government aims to ensure that fertilizers remain affordable for farmers to boost food production. The removal of these tax exemptions would lead to a significant price increase in fertilizers, adversely affecting agricultural output and food prices. Therefore, the Minister of Finance is instructed to uphold the existing tax exemptions for all fertilizer-related products, whether imported or locally produced, as previously established under PD 1144 and LOI 1419.
