SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 077-15
RESOLUTION TO HONOR EMPOWERED AND OUTSTANDING WOMEN FOR THEIR VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF SOCIETY IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN'S MONTH
WHEREAS, International Women's Day is annually and globally celebrated every eight of March;
WHEREAS, an international campaign to "Make it Happen" is this year's theme for International Women's Day;
WHEREAS, the theme seeks to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women while calling for greater equality;
WHEREAS, in the Philippines, the month-long celebration is pursuant to Republic Act No. 6949, "An Act to Declare March Eight of Every Year as a Working Special Holiday to be Known as National Women's Day"; Proclamation No. 224 s. 1998 "Declaring the First Week of March Each Year as Women's Week and March 8 as Women's Rights and International Peace Day"; and Proclamation No. 227 s. 1998 "Providing for Observance of the Month of March as Women's Role in History Month";
WHEREAS, the theme for this year's celebration in the Philippines is "Juana Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!";
WHEREAS, one of the main thrusts of the celebration is to recognize and highlight women's key roles and accomplishments in leadership, power and decision-making;
WHEREAS, it is important to continually acknowledge the role that women play towards nation-building;
WHEREAS, it is likewise important to acknowledge women who continue to break the glass ceiling;
WHEREAS, the Senate of the Philippines is one with the country in celebrating Women's Month by honoring outstanding and brilliant women from different walks of life who have been continuous achievers in different fields;
WHEREAS, due recognition is given to the following women for their contributions and accolades in then respective fields, namely:
1. LANG DULAY — famous T'boli Dreamweaver who is considered a national living treasure by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts
2. LISA MACUJA-ELIZALDE — first Filipina prima ballerina
3. RACHELLE GERODIAS — Philippines' premier soprano
4. MONIQUE LHUILLIER — world-renowned fashion designer
5. LOLITA VALDERRAMA-SAVAGE — Pinay Global Artist
6. FE DEL MUNDO — pediatrician and first woman admitted to Harvard Medical School
7. JURGENNE PRIMAVERA — one of TIME Magazine's Heroes of the Environment, marine scientist and conservationist
8. ROSELLE AMBUBUYOG — first visually-impaired Filipina to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Ateneo de Manila
9. CRISTETA "CRIS" COMERFORD — first Asian and first female White House Executive Chief

Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, That in celebration of Women's Month, the Senate of the Philippines recognize and honor these empowered and outstanding women for their valuable contributions in the different areas of society.
