Reclassifying Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine as Dangerous Drugs
On July 19, 2005, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) of the Philippines officially reclassified Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine, along with their salts and any preparations containing them, as dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This decision followed a recommendation from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and was based on a public hearing held earlier that year. The regulation includes specific exemptions for certain preparations that present a negligible risk of abuse and establishes prohibitions against their over-the-counter sale and advertising to the general public. Violations of this regulation can result in administrative sanctions and potential criminal prosecution. The regulation took effect 15 days after its publication in major newspapers.
