Republic Act No. 573, known as the "Philippine Military Aid to the United Nations Act," was enacted on September 7, 1950, to establish a Philippine Expeditionary Force for service in support of United Nations operations, particularly during the Korean War. The Act outlines provisions for the organization, equipment, and funding of this force, including specific pay and allowances for officers and enlisted personnel while they serve overseas. It also establishes compensation for death or disability incurred during service, ensuring that families of deceased personnel receive a gratuity and that disabled personnel are entitled to a pension based on the severity of their condition. Additionally, the Act includes appropriations for various expenses related to the force's operations, emphasizing that it will not reduce existing pay or allowances for military personnel. The law took effect immediately upon approval.
