Payment of Additional Allowances to Members and Personnel of the Judiciary
Letter of Instructions No. 1418, issued by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on July 18, 1984, addresses the need to enhance the financial support for the Judiciary in the Philippines. Recognizing the limited budgetary allotment for the Judiciary and the adverse economic conditions affecting its members, the directive allows local government units to provide additional allowances to judges within their jurisdictions. Specifically, local governments can pay up to P1,500, with a higher limit of P3,000 for those in Metropolitan Manila. This instruction aims to bolster the financial independence of the Judiciary and ensure its members are adequately compensated. The directive took effect immediately upon issuance.
