Observance of Employees' Week on December 1 to 7, 2008
Memorandum Circular No. 170, issued on November 14, 2008, enjoins all officials and employees of the Philippine national government, including government-owned corporations, state universities, and local government units, to observe National Government Employees' Week from December 1 to 7, 2008. This week, established by Proclamation No. 1130 in 1997, aims to honor the contributions of government employees to nation-building. The 2008 theme, "Going Beyond Public Office: A Call for Quality Public Service and Social Responsibility," emphasizes the importance of quality service and social accountability. All relevant agencies are encouraged to organize meaningful activities to celebrate this occasion.

ENJOINING OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES IN ALL DEPARTMENTS, BUREAUS AND AGENCIES OF THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT, INCLUDING GOVERNMENT-OWNED AND CONTROLLED CORPORATIONS AND STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, AS WELL AS LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS AND GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ORGANIZATIONS TO OBSERVE EMPLOYEES' WEEK ON DECEMBER 1 TO 7, 2008
Pursuant to Proclamation No. 1130 dated November 11, 1997, the first week of December of every year has been declare as National Government Employees' Week. The proclamation aims to recognize the invaluable services rendered by deserving government employees and to underscore their contribution to nation building. For this year's celebration, the theme is "Going Beyond Public Office: A Call for Quality Public Service and Social Responsibility".
In this regard, officials and employees in all departments, bureaus and agencies of the national government, including government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), government financial institutions (GFIs) and state universities and colleges, as well as local government units and government employees organizations are hereby enjoined to observe and participate in appropriate activities for a meaningful observance and celebration of National Government Employees' Week in coordination with other concerned agencies.
