Making Elective the Offices of Provincial Governor and Members of Provincial Board
Republic Act No. 59, enacted on October 17, 1946, establishes that the offices of provincial governor and members of the provincial board in Bukidnon, Cotabato, Lanao, Sulu, and Mountain Province are now elective positions. The act ensures that these provinces will continue to receive financial support from the National Government, and it mandates that the compensation for provincial officials in these areas aligns with that of similar officials in other provinces. Additionally, it repeals certain provisions from previous acts that excluded these provinces from general classifications for compensation. The law will take effect once the President proclaims that the provinces are ready for elections, which will coincide with regular provincial elections in the country.
