Local Tourism Councils and Other Tourism Promotion-Oriented Efforts

DILG MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 162-95

| SUBJECT | : | Local Tourism Councils and Other Tourism Promotion-Oriented Efforts |
In line with Presidential instructions to improve tourism facilities and in furtherance of Section 17 of the Local Government Code as this pertains to local tourism initiatives, all local chief executives are encouraged to:
ยบ organize a Tourism Council, if none is existing at the moment, composed of government and private sector representatives to: (a) formulate programs and recommendations to develop local tourism facilities and attractions tapping local resources and funds; (b) assist in the regulation and supervision of tourism-oriented establishments thereby ensuring wholesome and clean tourism activities; and (c) assist in monitoring the implementation of the Local Government Code on the matter of licensing of tourism establishments in the locality to ascertain safe and enjoyable stay of travelers; and
ยบ strictly enforce sanitary standards in public restrooms frequented by public utility vehicles and tourist transport services, i.e., gasoline stations, restaurants along main highways and bus stops.
All DILG Regional Directors are hereby directed to see that this Memorandum Circular is effectively disseminated to LGUs within their jurisdictions and to provide technical support on the matter, as appropriate and upon request.
