Life Insurance for Barrio Lieutenants
Republic Act No. 538, enacted on June 16, 1950, authorizes municipal councils in the Philippines to secure life insurance for barrio lieutenants against accidents and other risks. This legislation recognizes the unremunerated service of barrio lieutenants and the heightened dangers they face in maintaining peace and order. The Act amends the Administrative Code to allow councils to provide insurance policies with a maximum coverage of P1,000 for these community leaders. This measure aims to offer financial assistance to the families of barrio lieutenants in the event of their untimely death due to unnatural causes. The law took effect upon its approval.
