Increase in the Minimum Allowable Wage and Food Allowance for Foreign Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) announced an increase in the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) and food allowance for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) in Hong Kong, effective for contracts signed on or after October 1, 2015. The new MAW is set at HK$4,210, while the food allowance is increased to HK$995. Existing contracts signed before September 30, 2015, can still utilize the previous rates of HK$4,110 for MAW and HK$964 for food allowance if processed by the Philippine Consulate by October 19, 2015. This adjustment was made following a review of economic conditions in Hong Kong.

POEA ADVISORY NO. 031-15
INCREASE IN THE MINIMUM ALLOWABLE WAGE (MAW) AND FOOD ALLOWANCE FOR FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPERS IN HONG KONG
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Hong Kong reported on the decision of the Hong Kong government to raise the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) and food allowance for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs).
The decision increased the monthly MAW from HK$4,110 to HK$4,210 and food allowance from HK$964.00 to HK$995.00 for all employment contracts signed on or after 01 October 2015. The previous MAW of HK$4,110.00 and food allowance of HK$964.00 will still be accepted provided that the contracts were signed on or before 30 September 2015 and processed by the Philippine Consulate General on or before 19 October 2015.
The decision by the HK government to raise the MAW and food allowance for FDHs was reached after a regular review of Hong Kong's general economic and employment conditions and relevant consumer price index.
