FDA ADVISORY NO. 054-13

A. Guidelines for Donors of Medicines
1. All donations of medicines shall be coordinated and managed in order to ensure access and maximum benefit to the recipients, including health programs, medical relief centers and medical missions, and the patients. ScaEIT
2. The Medicine Donation Form as shown in Annex 1 may be required to be accomplished by the donor before, during, or after the donation, as may be appropriate, to help the DOH-FDA assess the quality of donated medicines or advise all health workers in the field.
3. The DOH through the FDA shall clear donated medicines and shall reserve the right to hold donated medicines at any time for further determination of the quality before use.
4. If possible, all medicine donations should be based on the Philippine National Formulary or medicines needed for common diseases and other health concerns that are prevailing in the affected areas, such as but not limited to, cold, cough, flu, fever, infections and treatment for wounds, diarrhea, pneumonia, skin diseases and chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
5. All medicine donations should be obtained from legitimate/reliable drug outlets, distributors and manufacturers with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
6. When possible, donated medicines should have at least four (4) months before expiration to ensure that they can be used in the medical relief centers.
7. Donated medicines packaging/labeling should be in "ENGLISH" translation or in a language that is understood by Filipino patients and healthcare professionals.
B. Public Tips and Reminders on Using Medicines
Mga tips at paalaala para sa publiko ukol sa paggamit ng mga medisinang donasyon:
1. Double check the label on your medicines specially the GENERIC NAMES and EXPIRATION DATES before administration or taking them. Be vigilant.
Suriin ng mabuti ang pangalan at kung maaaring gamitin ang gamot o medisina na ibinigay bago ito inumin or gamitin. Maging mapagbantay at mapanuri.
2. Do not take or administer any medicines without consulting a health professional.
Huwag inumin o gamitin ang anumang gamot o medisina na galing sa donasyon ng walang pahintulot o patnubay ng inyong duktor, nars o parmasyutiko.
3. Take medicines according to the schedule prescribed by a health professional. If swallowing tablets is difficult, do NOT break, crush, or chew tablets without asking a health professional first.
Inumin ang mga gamot o medisina ng naaayon sa oras na itinakda ng inyong duktor.
4. Examine the physical appearance of the medicines by looking at its color, hardness, consistency. Do not take the medicine if it is chipped, mottled or broken. SAcCIH
Suriin ng mabuti ang itsura ng mga gamot or medisina base sa kulay, kung ito ay madaling madurog o may dumi. Huwag inumin o gamitin kung ito ay may basag o kung ito ay durog.
