Grant of Temporary Permit to Manila Times Publishing Co., Inc. (Radio Stations)
Republic Act No. 553, enacted on June 17, 1950, grants the Manila Times Publishing Company, Inc. a temporary permit to construct and operate private radio stations for communication within the Philippines. The permit is valid as long as the government has not established similar services in the selected locations and requires construction to begin within one year and be completed within two years. The company is prohibited from engaging in domestic telecommunications business without further congressional approval and must ensure that its operations do not interfere with existing radio stations. The act also reserves the right for the President to close the stations in times of national emergency and subjects the permit to amendments by Congress as necessary.
