Grant of Permit to Lepanto Consolidated Mining Co. (Radio Stations)
Republic Act No. 4008, enacted on June 18, 1964, grants Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company permission to construct and operate private radio stations for aeronautical and land-based communications in the Philippines. The permit allows the company to receive and transmit wireless messages, but restricts it from engaging in domestic telecommunications without further congressional approval. The stations must not interfere with existing operations and are subject to location approval by the Secretary of Public Works and Communications. The Act emphasizes that the permit does not confer exclusive rights and may be amended or repealed by Congress as necessary for public interest. Additionally, in times of national emergency, the President can commandeer the stations without compensation to the grantee.
