Giving Urgent Tuition Assistance to Students
Letter of Instructions No. 6, issued on May 16, 2008, mandates the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), along with the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Finance, to provide urgent tuition assistance through emergency loans for students. The focus is particularly on final-year students and those poised for employment post-graduation. The program is to be modeled after previous arrangements where educational institutions acted as loan conduits and collection agents. CHED is tasked with launching this initiative by June, beginning in the National Capital Region, and organizing a ceremony for the distribution of loan checks.

LETTER OF INSTRUCTIONS NO. 6
GIVING URGENT TUITION ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS, FOR THEIR FUTURE AS PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Department of Budget and Management, and the Department of Finance are hereby instructed to mobilize funds for emergency loans to students, especially those in their final year of study and those with ready employment after completing courses. The scheme should replicate arrangements in past years where schools were loan conduits and collecting agents. CHED should launch the program by June at least in the National Capital Region. Let us have a launch giving out loan checks. DACTSa
