Establishing the Institute of Social Work and Community Development in the University of the Philippines

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 5174

AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL WORK AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES, PROVIDING FUNDS FOR BUILDING, EQUIPMENT, FACILITIES AND OPERATING EXPENSES THEREOF, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

SECTION 1. There is hereby established an Institute of Social Work and Community Development in the University of the Philippines which shall provide professional and advanced training, research and extension services to foster and inculcate the importance and relevance of social work and community development.

SECTION 2. The Institute of Social Work and Community Development may, for the purpose of this Act, obtain the services of professional or technical personnel from any agency of the Philippine Government or from the private sector to provide instruction, perform research, and such other activities as may be necessary. Such personnel will be given honorarium at rates fixed by Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.

SECTION 3. In pursuance of its projects and activities in teaching, research and extension services, the Institute may avail itself of the other services, facilities, equipment and research materials of any government and/or private agencies or offices. The Institute may likewise undertake joint or cooperative research and extension projects with other government and private agencies.

SECTION 4. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated, out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one million five hundred thousand pesos for necessary building and other facilities and equipment of the Institute of Social Work and Community Development of the University of The Philippines: Provided, that the sum of three hundred thousand pesos is appropriated for the operating expenses of the Institute for fiscal year nineteen hundred sixty-seven and nineteen hundred sixty-eight: Provided, further, That at least the amount of three hundred thousand pesos shall be appropriated every year thereafter, beginning with the next succeeding fiscal year, out of funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated for the continued support of the Institute.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
