Creation of Municipality of Lawa-an, Samar
Republic Act No. 2185, enacted on May 7, 1959, establishes the Municipality of Lawa-an in the Province of Samar by separating several barrios from the Municipality of Balangiga. The new municipality's seat of government is designated in the barrio of Lawa-an. Initial municipal officials, including the mayor, vice-mayor, and councilors, will be appointed by the President of the Philippines with the approval of the Commission on Appointments, serving until elected successors are in place. The Act took effect immediately upon approval and was published in the Official Gazette on June 22, 1959.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 2185
AN ACT CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF LAWA-AN, PROVINCE OF SAMAR
SECTION 1. The barrios of Lawa-an, Bulosao, Guinoban, Bitaog, Taguite and Maslog are hereby separated from the Municipality of Balangiga, Province of Samar, and are constituted as a separated and independent municipality to be known as the Municipality of Lawa-an in the Province of Samar, with its seat of government in the barrio of Lawa-an. casia
SECTION 2. The first municipal mayor, vice-mayor and councilors of the new municipality shall be appointed by the President of the Republic of the Philippines, with the consent of the Commission on Appointments, to hold office until their successors are elected and qualified.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
