Creation of Municipality of Basilisa, Surigao del Norte
Republic Act No. 5775, enacted on June 21, 1969, establishes the Municipality of Basilisa in the Province of Surigao del Norte. It separates the barrios of Catadman, Columbus, Cortez, Melgar, Mantag, Puerto Princesa, Rizal, Roxas, Tab-abaca, and Paniog from the Municipality of Dinagat to form this new municipality, with its seat of government located in Rizal. The Municipality of Basilisa will gain corporate existence following the election of its first mayor, vice-mayor, and councilors in the next local elections. The act took effect upon its approval and was published in the Official Gazette on January 19, 1970.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 5775
AN ACT CREATING THE MUNICIPALITY OF BASILISA IN THE PROVINCE OF SURIGAO DEL NORTE
SECTION 1. The barrios of Catadman, Columbus, Cortez, Melgar, Mantag, Puerto Princesa, Rizal, Roxas, Tab-abaca, and Paniog in the Municipality of Dinagat, Province of Surigao del Norte, are separated from said municipality, and constituted into a distinct and independent municipality, to be known as the Municipality of Basilisa. The seat of government of the new municipality shall be in the present site of the barrio of Rizal.
SECTION 2. The Municipality of Basilisa shall acquire corporate existence upon the election and qualification of the first mayor, vice-mayor and councilors in the next general elections for local officials. For election purposes, the municipal officials of the mother municipality charged with the election duties in accordance with the Revised Election Code shall hold office until the first officials shall have been elected and qualified. cd
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
